Founded in 1978, Ag Production Enterprises, Inc. was the name given to the farming operation started by Larry and Carol Pumphrey. Larry and Carol took on the responsibility of managing Carol’s family farm ground shortly after graduating from Purdue in 1967. With lots of hard work and a willingness to try new things, the farm business boomed. The young couple quickly added hogs, additional acres, and a handful of children! Agriculture went through wide swings in profitability in the 70’s and 80’s, and the Pumphrey’s seized every opportunity. Hog production, seed corn, and detasseling were all important aspects of the farm’s growth. During these early years, lifelong relationships were formed with landlords, employees, and suppliers.
Today, AgPro is operated by Robert and Natalie Pumphrey, the eighth generation to operate the farm since it was obtained through the Homestead Act. Robert and Natalie continue to grow the farm, looking for ways to leverage the strengths of the operation they are proud to call their own.
As grain farming and swine production changes rapidly in an evolving global market, we are confident there will be opportunities for operations like ours. The traditional agricultural principles of hard work, farm asset ownership, and ethical business standards will continue to be the foundation of our family farm, hopefully for generations to come!
